Yesterday, news broke that YG Entertainment artists, Se7en, Gummy, Big Bang, and 2NE1 were all headed to Japan for “an important announcement” and at approximately 3:30PM (JST) on July 21st, a live Ustream began for this major announcement.
After a brief introduction of the YGE artists, it was announced that Avex and YG Entertainment would be collaborating to form a new company called ‘YGEX Entertainment‘.
YGEX’s homepage states, “A birth of a record label dedicated exclusively to YG FAMILY!” And goes on to explain, “The name is “YGEX”, attributing to the collaboration of YG FAMILY “YG” with AVEX “EX”. “EX” also inspired by words like “EXPERIENCE” and “EXCLUSIVE”, carries connotations of it being the one and only label you can experience YG FAMILY.”
“The collaboration between YG, not bound to just Asia now spreading as a worldwide trend “YG POP”, and AVEX who has always innovated and led the Japanese music scene, is definitely a match up bound to create a new and unpredictable form of entertainment.”
As this is a new company, how exactly promotions and releases will be handled is unclear. However, we do know that YG and Avex intend to work hand-in-hand as a new entity, and bring the music industries of Korea and Japan closer together.
Beyond the announcement of the collaboration of Avex and YG and birth of YGEX Entertainment, during the live UStream, YG and Avex also revealed:
- Gummy is going to release something in October and will be collaborating with another YG Family member.
- Se7en is going to release a mini album
- 2NE1 Japanese Tour
- Big Bang will continue to both work as a group and continue their solo activities.
- There will be a YG Family Concert in Japan & Korea for 2011 to celebrate YG’s 15th Anniversary
- YGX will release a new group, for Korea and Japan in October
* some people complain how YGE takes huge breaks between promotions and how the wait is just torture.. but true YG Family lovers understand that they do this out of their desire to perfect everything and not just continuous throw artists out to make money. and honestly, when YGE gives news.. they don’t just give us news and updates, they MAKE the news. and its so damn worth it. out of no where we were told yesterday to expect big news and today BAMMM! we were hit with this bomb of massive awesome news!! :D
